THE 108th ANNUAL REUNION DINNER|
The Dolphin Hotel
Dr Brendan Brophy (1957-62)
The Chairman of the 2018 Dinner will be Dr Brendan Brophy (1957-62). Neither a great sportsman nor academic, Brendan joined Square Grip in their design office in Southampton as an indentured engineer. Having completed indentures he joined a local consulting engineer, Marks, Heeley and Brothwell as a junior engineer in order to complete his training. Becoming a chartered member of the Institution of Structural Engineers in 1971, he transferred to Dubai as a partner in the middle east consultancy. He then joined Arenco, a multi-disciplinary consultancy, where he was chief engineer responsible for major commercial developments, new hospitals and several palaces. Returning to Southampton in 1988 he joined the Alan Marshall Partnership and was heavily involved in new hospital work together with commercial work in the City. Brendan joined Atkins in 2001 and retired from Atkins in 2016 but is retained by them as a Consultant. Brendan was made a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers in 2007. He was made a Freeman of The City of London in 1991 and a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Paviors. He serves as co-chair of the Industrial Advisory Board to the School of Engineering at Kingston University. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science by the University in 2010. He currently chairs SCAMPPS, a Surrey charity for children with special needs. He married Janet in 1992 and they live on Epsom Downs where they can enjoy walks in the better weather.
The Annual Reunion Dinner is open to all past and present members of the School or College. An application form for this function can be viewed by clicking this button (this opens a new window):
Depending on the internet browser you are using, you can download the proforma by right-clicking it, or by pressing a download button (copies will also be distributed to OTA Members with OTA News & Views, and will also be emailed to members for whom we have an email address). We are asking OTs to try and get these forms back to us (along with the necessary remittance!) by 27 October 2018 - this will help us enormously in the more detailed planning of this event. A special rate of £83 (single room) and £93 (double room), including full English breakfast, has been arranged for overnight accommodation at the Dolphin Hotel. It is essential to book ahead of the event. The hotel are securing a number of rooms at this rate on our behalf, but please note that these will only be held up to 14 days prior to this event, after which the rates will be subject to availablity. Please ensure that at the time of booking “attendance at the Old Tauntonians' Association Dinner”, is specifically mentioned and you must use the code "Old Tauntonians 10 November". Full details of the hotel, and all its facilities can be found on the website link above.
