Alice Wrighton

Alice Wrighton

The Chair of the 2019 Dinner will be Alice Wrighton Principal of Richard Taunton Sixth Form College 2008-2018. Alice retired from the role of Principal of Richard Taunton Sixth Form College in August 2018, having led the college for 10. She was born in Oxford, a child of the Methodist manse, the fourth of five children. The family moved to Southampton in 1968, and she went to the Southampton Girls Grammar School. This was a tough move at the age of 14, but she survived to progress into the Sixth Form College which was evolving at that time, with not an inkling that she would be walking back in to the same building as the Principal exactly 40 years later! Alice completed a joint honours degree in History and French at Warwick University, and a PGCE at Southampton University. Her first teaching job was at Priestlands Secondary School in Lymington, where she taught History, French and RS for five years. After a short career break, she joined Barton Peveril Sixth Form College in 1987 as a History Teacher. She went on to hold a number of roles at Barton Peveril, including Head of Department, Curriculum Director for Humanities and finally Assistant Principal. In 2001, she moved to Queen Mary's College in Basingstoke to take up the post of Deputy Principal before taking up her post as Principal at Richard Taunton's College in August 2008. Alice has been married to David for 42 years. They have two grown up daughters, Eleanor and Sophie, and two young grandchildren, Jessica and Teddy. Retirement is proving to be a great delight and a great opportunity. Alice is still flying the flag for Southampton in her capacity as a Saints season ticket holder, and is keen to return to choral singing and even possibly golf, both of which she gave up due to the pressures of working life!

The Annual Reunion Dinner is open to all past and present members of the School or College. An application form for this function can be viewed by clicking this button (this opens a new window):

Depending on the internet browser you are using, you can download the proforma by right-clicking it, or by pressing a download button (copies will also be distributed to OTA Members with OTA News & Views, and will also be emailed to members for whom we have an email address). We are asking OTs to try and get these forms back to us (along with the necessary remittance!) by 12 October 2019 - this will help us enormously in the more detailed planning of this event. A special rate of £85 (single room) and £95 (double room), including full English breakfast, has been arranged for overnight accommodation at the Dolphin Hotel. It is essential to book ahead of the event. The hotel are securing a number of rooms at this rate on our behalf, but please note that these will only be held up to 14 days prior to this event, after which the rates will be subject to availablity. Please ensure that at the time of booking “attendance at the Old Tauntonians' Association Dinner on 9 November 2019”, is specifically mentioned . Full details of the hotel, and all its facilities can be found on the website link above.
