(Golf) Triangular Match 2005

The annual triangular golf match between the Old Tauntonians, Old Symondians and Old Edwardians took place on a fine summer evening on Tuesday 14 June at Hockley Golf Club.

The result was a win for the OTs with 10 points, with the OEs on 9 points and the OSs on 5 points.

Individual results were as follows:
Bob Clarke - 1 point (2 halves), Mike Earns - 0 points, James Pinchon - 2 points,
Steve Williams - 2 points, John White - 2 points, Paul White - 2 points,
David Jago - 0 points, David Defty - 1 point

Following the match all the teams were invited to a supper presided over by the legendary Arthur Bath. Arthur is the Old Symondian who has arranged the match for over fifty years. Sadly he no longer plays in the Old Symondians' team. Based on their performance this year Arthur could be making a comeback!

Guests at the supper included Peter Wainwright, a long-standing team supporter, David Pinchon, who has played in the match for a number of years, and Steve White, who ran the Old Tauntonians' team for approximately 30 years.

We offer our congratulations to Jamie and his team. It took a little while longer than Steve White anticipated but we are delighted that normal service has resumed. And, quite clearly, those handicaps have, as East Enders might say, been "sorted"!
