(Golf) Triangular Match 2009

The annual triangular golf match between the Old Tauntonians, Old Symondians and Old Edwardians took place on Tuesday 9 June at Hockley Golf Club, on a beautiful summer evening – a rarity this year!

The match was played, in the customary atmosphere of sporting animosity, under Stableford Rules and with a full handicap allowance. In previous years the allowance has been 3/4 handicap and this made quite a bit of difference.

Unfortunately, and against the bookies odds, the Old Symondians ran out victorious. The majority of their matches were won 'out in the country' and an urgent review of the current handicapping system is definitely required!

The match results were: OSs 11 points, OTs 7.5 points and OEs 5.5 points.

After the match the teams and their guests enjoyed the OS's hospitality in the clubhouse with a delightful supper. The Old Symondians, in particular Bob Stilwell, are to be thanked for once again organising the event, which ran very smoothly as usual.

James Pinchon - 1 point (2 halves), Harry Tollerfleld - 1 point, Trevor Wenham - 0 points,
Steve Williams - 1 point, David Jago - 0.5 point
